Optical properties of PVDF-TrFE and PVDF-TrFE-CTFE films in terahertz band

Abstract Polymers have enormous potential in the optoelectronic and biomedical fields due to flexibility, biocompatibility, ease of fabrication. Recent developments use terahertz (THz) waves for security applications demand information on optical properties polymers polymer composites this region. In present work, transmission, refractive index ( n ), extinction coefficient k ) PVDF-TrFE (75/25 mol.) copolymer PVDF-TrFE-CTFE (73/23/4 terpolymer films with different thicknesses (40 μ m, 60 80 m) are measured by THz-TDS system (up 1 THz). PVDF show average transmission more than 90% irrespective thickness. The 1.50 ± 0.04 1.45 0.05 respectively. estimated is considerably low both frequencies less 0.6 THz. indices close, however, loss larger films. High ferroelectric make these based highly desirable light-wave manipulation, flexible electronic solar devices.
